The third annual Energy in Agriculture event is taking place in Gurteen College, Co. Tipperary on Tuesday 21st August. Last year’s event was a resounding success, with an attendance of approximately 2,500 people and more than 65 exhibitors. This year’s event which is being organised by Teagasc, Tipperary Co Council, IFA, Tipperary Energy Agency, Gurteen College with the Irish Farmers Journal as media partners promises to be even better.
The event was launched recently on the farm of Gerard Coyle, Athleague, Co. Roscommon, by Mr. Denis Naughten, T.D. Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, who said: “Renewable energy will have a transformative positive impact in rural areas and will offer new farm diversification opportunities... Energy in Agriculture 2018 provides an ideal platform to highlight the role that renewables and the bio-economy can play in overcoming our energy and sustainability challenges.”
IFA Renewables Chair Tom Short said: “Energy in Agriculture 2018 provides a real opportunity for farmers to hear from experts and share their own knowledge and experiences. As the voice of Irish farming, IFA wants to see profitable, sustainable, resilient and diversified farm businesses.”
The programme includes talks, demonstrations, exhibitions and one-to-one clinics. The demonstrations and discussions with a panel of experts and practitioners will focus on the areas of Wind, Solar PV, Wood Mobilisation and Anaerobic Digestion. There will be 22 talks with experts and practitioners offering advice and information in both energy production and also energy usage in Agriculture, including a number of case studies where farmers will share their experiences.
The talks have been categorised into three areas:
Practical On-Farm Energy which will explore opportunities for reducing energy costs and achieving energy efficiency
Support Scheme for Renewable Heat, Biomass and Forestry which will look at the impending SSRH and the opportunities it will bring.
Delivering Sustainable Energy through Agriculture which will include talks on legal pitfalls, finance, and planning issues.
Also there will be an Innovation Showcase where new and exciting technologies will be presented.
The event will be opened by Minister Denis Naughten T.D., and the M.C. for the day will be RTÉ’s Damien O’Reilly. Already a large number of people have registered their interest to attend the event and over 40 exhibition stands have been booked.
